CookieRun Classic Relay Mechanics

How the Cookie relay system works in CookieRun Classic — timing, Pet pairing, and relay strategies for score and coins.

Relay System Overview

The relay mechanic lets you bring a second Cookie into an active run. When your primary Cookie's energy depletes or they crash into an obstacle, the relay Cookie takes over seamlessly, preserving your accumulated score and continuing the run.

Relay unlocks during mid-episode progression. Until then, focus on single-Cookie optimization. Once unlocked, relay becomes mandatory for competitive play.

Relay Timing Strategies

Score Runs: Switch to relay during bonus time, not after crashing. A score-focused relay Cookie with bonus-time Pets extends your highest-value phase. Buttercream Choco as relay during Mint Choco's bonus time is a classic Korean meta technique.

Survival Runs: Let your main Cookie fall naturally, then relay a tanky Cookie like Muscle with Brain Gum to extend the run from a safe position.

Coin Runs: Relay a second coin-generating Cookie to maintain coin rain through the entire run length. Dual coin relay setups maximize per-run income.

Relay Pet Pairing

Main and relay Pets should complement, not duplicate. If main Cookie uses Coin Scale, relay Pet should provide survival (Brain Gum) or score conversion (Jelly Scale).

Avoid pairing two revive Pets. One Wishing Star across both Cookies is sufficient. Use the second Pet slot for utility.

Test relay combinations in non-League runs before submitting scores. Relay transitions have a brief animation window where obstacle hits are possible.

Advanced Relay Techniques

Experienced players manually trigger relay before energy depletes to control transition timing. This prevents crashes during the relay swap animation.

Some Cookies have relay-specific abilities that activate only when entering as relay. Check ability descriptions for relay bonuses.

Episode-specific relay strategies vary. Episode 1 rewards score relay; Episode 4 rewards survival relay due to obstacle density.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Cookie relay?

When your main Cookie falls, a backup Cookie continues the run. Both Cookies need separate upgrades and can equip different Pets.

When should I trigger relay?

During bonus time for score runs, or immediately after a crash when your relay has survival abilities.

Do relay Cookies need their own Pets?

Yes. Each Cookie equips one Pet. Your relay Pet can complement your main Pet strategy.

Can I choose which Cookie relays?

You select your relay Cookie before the run. Choose based on complementary abilities to your main Cookie.

Does relay reset energy?

Relay Cookies start with their own energy pool. Some Treasures extend relay energy independently.
